The Counselor I is accountable for providing specialized psychotherapy to a selected group of patients.
Conducts group, individual, and family psychotherapy of assigned patients.
Assesses basic mental health needs for patients/family and initiates treatment.
Develops individual treatment plans of assigned patients.
Involves appropriate staff members in implementing treatment of patients and family
May function as a member of the Crisis Team by being on call to the Emergency Room and hospital for crisis intervention on a 24-hour rotational basis.
Assists in the provision of in-service and continuing education of other staff members.
Assists in the orientation of new personnel.
Maintains records and reports necessary information regarding patients' care and planning to appropriate staff members.
Provides assistance to other staff members in dealing with problematic situations.
Performs other related duties within the scope of the job classification, as assigned.
Masters degree in social work, psychology or mental health field from an accredited college.
Must demonstrate a working knowledge of various therapeutic modalities.
Two years experience in the fields of alcoholism or psychiatry.
Ability to work independently and accept supervision.
