Overview

Data management expert who collects cancer data from a variety of sources and reports the resuliting cancer statistics to various healthcare agencies. 

Responsibilities

Coordinates Cancer Registry day-to-dayoperations. Ensures compliance with kentucky Cancer Registry and Amercian College of Surgeons regulations.  Responsible for identifying and accessioning new cancer cases both inpatient and outpatient, within 95-100% accuracy per ACoS guidelines.

 

Ensures that timely, accurate and complete cancer (demographic, clinical, pathological, therapeutic, and epidemiologic) data, including suspense file, follow-up, case finding and computer data entry is collected and maintained on all types of cancer diagnosed and/or treated at the Hazard Appalachian Regional Center and ARH Cancer Center.  The Cancer Registrar will also be required to attend training workshops in regards to updating knowledge of changes in abstracting abd CoC standards.  In order to accomplish the goal of preventing and controlling cancer, the Cancer Registrar also will work closely with physicians, administrators, researches and health care planners to provide support for cancer program development, ensure compliance of reporting standards and serve as a valuable resource for cancer information.  The cancer registrar will prepare all special studies requested by the American College of Surgeons.  He/she will assist with the ACoS annual report and assist in quality control studies and provide data analysis upon request from physicians, administrators, researchers and health care planners.

 

On monthly babis the Cancer Registrar willbe responsible for Tumor Board meetings, including recruitment of cases, distribution of notices, scheduling, and preparation of meeting room along with preapration of accurate and complete minutes.

 

The Cancer Registrar will work closely with teh Cancer Committee of Hazard ARH (and the Hazard ARH Cancer Subcommittee-which he/she will chair) to ensure that all ACoS standards are met to maintain accreditation.  Quarterly, or more oftern if needed, the registrar will set up Cancer Committee meetings, working closely with cancer committee chair for meeting agenda, distribute notices and preapre room for mettings along with taking accurate and complete minutes. 

Qualifications

Certified Tumor registrar or CTR eligible. Proficient in medical terminology, knowlege in anatomy and physiology.  Excellent organizational and communicable skills.  Knowledge or expereince in computerized data entry.  Ability to work independently and under diretion, when necessary.  Must possess an attitude of copperation and professionalism to faciliate harmonious relationships, interdepartmentally, and with physicians.
