Overview

Performs scanning of patient information in a timely and accurate manner, assuring that all information is scanned into the correct patient and accurate account in a legible and correct fashion.  Performs and coordinates requests for release of protected health information in compliance with HIPAA and state law requirements.  Serves as receptionist for the Department.  Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required for permanent employment at HRMC.
  • Must possess at least the basic skills/knowledge in the following areas:
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Medical Terminology
  • Computer Keyboarding
  • Document Software Programs
  • Some college background is preferred in health information technology or medical field 

Minimum Work Experience: 

  • One (1) year prior health information management experience, preferably, in an acute care setting

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Excellent organizational, analytical and verbal and written (English language) communication skills
  • Possess a high level of integrity, ethics, and quality work habits
  • Requires the ability to use office machinery to process information, i.e. copiers, scanners, printers, and fax machines.
  • Requires the ability to sit and maintain focused concentration for long periods of time
  • Requires close mental and visual attention to work processes
  • Must be detail oriented
  • Must be knowledgeable of HIPAA and State laws as they pertain to protected health information
  • Must have excellent customer service skills
  • Must be comfortable in and familiar with the electronic work environment:
  • Commonly utilized software applications
  • Research information via electronic medical record
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision within guidelines provided
  • Ability to work well with others, using tact and diplomacy to deal with physicians, employees, and public.
  • Ability to work well with attorneys, state, and government agencies
  • Professional appearance and behavior
  • Possess ability to handle stressful situations
  • Must be quality conscious, dependable, and flexible
  • Requires the ability to lift, reach and bend
  • Maintains the confidentiality and privacy of protected health information
