Overview

The Director of Inpatient Counseling and Psychological Services will both oversee and optimize the inpatient psychiatry unit’s therapeutic, psychological and discharge-planning services, and participate within the multidisciplinary team as the unit’s clinical psychologist.

Responsibilities

The Director of Inpatient Counseling and Psychological Services, will be responsible for both everyday operations and ensuring the quality of therapeutic, psychological, case management and discharge management services within the inpatient unit. Working closely with both the system’s Director of Therapeutic and Rehabilitative Services and the inpatient unit’s administrative and medical and nursing leaders , the Director of Inpatient Counseling and Psychological Services will ensure that their teams are actively participating and contributing to each patient’s treatment and discharge plan. 

Acting as a clinical psychologist, the Director of Inpatient Counseling and Psychological Services will diagnose and treat patients suffering from mental, behavioral, or emotional disorders as a part of a multi-disciplinary inpatient behavioral health treatment team. Responsibilities include the assessment of patients to determine the nature, causes, and potential effects of personal distress; of personal, social, and work dysfunctions; and the psychological factors associated with physical, behavioral, emotional, nervous, and mental disorders, through interviews, behavioral assessments, and the administration and interpretation of tests of intellectual abilities, aptitudes, personal characteristics, and other aspects of human behavior relative to the disturbance. Clinical psychologists may provide care to patients in the intensive care setting in conformance with unit policies. They may assess, stabilize, and determine disposition of patients with emergent conditions consistent with medical staff policy regarding emergency and consultative call services.   • Other Responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications


Minimum Education
• Ph. D., Psy.D. or M.S. in Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an American Psychological Association (APA)- accredited educational institution and at least two years of clinical experience.
AND
• An active Kentucky License as a Clinical Psychologist or Licensed Psychological Practitioner (LPP). If no active license, candidate must have the ability to receive one of the above licenses to practice, issued by the State Board of Examiners of Psychologists is required for applicants and re-applicants.
AND
• Demonstration of current competence and provision of care, treatment, or services to at least 60 patients during the past 24 months, which may include services provided during training.

 

Minimum Work Experience
2 Years of Clinical Experience Required
3-5 Years of Clinical Inpatient Experience Strongly Preferred


Required Licenses/Certifications
Ability to obtain a Clinical Psychologist License or Licensed Psychological Practitioner (LPP) in Kentucky is required.
Active license to practice as a Licensed Clinical Psychologist or Licensed Psychological Practitioner (LPP) in Kentucky is strongly preferred.

Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately
Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals
Knowledge of basic medical terminology required
Basic computer knowledge is required
Ability to move or lift patients and equipment
Ability to work independently within general guidelines
Ability to communicate in English, both orally and written
Ability to work flexible hours
Ability to work with adults experiencing mental health disturbances or dual diagnoses.
