The Clinical Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing various routine laboratory tests to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease while maintaining all of the Standards of the Laboratory and the Corporation, as well as regulatory agencies.
May perform all tasks of Laboratory Technician, producing and interpreting accurate results in an efficient manner..
May participate in laboratory coverage on shift basis -- evening, night, and/or on call shifts.
Performs trouble-shooting problems with equipment.
Performs record keeping as demanded of the job.
Performs examinations, smears, biochemical tests, serological testes and other necessary tests to identify micro-organisms.
Receives and plants cultures; performs and reads gram stains as needed.
Performs tests for processing blood, determines blood types, cross matches blood and does blood groupings.
Performs a complete urinalysis and additional related tests required.
Performs EKG's, EEG's and Holter Monitor hook-ups; if applicable.
Performs blood tests, studies morphology of blood constituents and performs various coagulation tests.
Performs routine chemical tests on blood specimens and other body fluids.
Prepares samples as necessary to be shipped to System and contract reference facilities and local labs.
Operates and calibrates various instruments and calculates test results accordingly.
Performs daily maintenance as required on all laboratory instrumentation.
May assist with post-mortum care, if applicable.
Operates computers and printers.
Uses and monitors quality control programs within predetermined parameters.
Performs venipunctures and other pre-testing patient preparation.
Performs other routine tests and prepares necessary reagents in various areas (i.e., Serology, Hematology, Chemistry, Blood Bank, Microbiology, and Urinalysis).
May function in one area of laboratory and perform certain specialized tests and/or use special equipment in that area.
Maintains work area in a clean, safe and orderly manner.
Must be knowledgeable in safe disposal of physical and chemical hazards.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Successful completion of an associate degree in Medical Technology or one of the related sciences and certification from one of the following:

American Society of
Clinical Pathologists Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)
National Certifying Agency Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT)
Achievement of a passing score on the HEW Proficieny Examination for Clinical Laboratory Personnel.
Must maintain state licensure, as required.
