Overview

The Crisis Response Associate role is a temporary SAMHSA Crisis Counseling Assistance and Training Program (CCP) grant funded position in response to the flooding in Eastern Kentucky that occurred in July 2022. The associate will be responsible for providing and documenting outreach services to staff and the community related to the Kentucky Community Crisis Response Team behavioral health related activities.

 

 

Responsibilities

The CCP helps individuals and communities recover from natural and human-caused disasters through community outreach and access to mental health services. The CCP is a short-term disaster relief grant for states, US territories, and federally recognized tribes. CCP grants are awarded after a presidential disaster declaration. CCP funding supports community-based outreach, counseling, and other mental health services to survivors of natural and human-caused disasters.

 

The CCP helps people recover and rebuild their lives after a disaster. The CCP supports short-term interventions that involve the following counseling goals:

  • Helping disaster survivors understand their current situation and reactions
  • Reducing stress and providing emotional support
  • Assisting survivors in reviewing their disaster recovery options
  • Promoting the use or development of coping strategies
  • Connecting survivors with other people and agencies who can help them in their recovery process

 

Position Specifics:

  • Complete all applicable training as required by CCP
  • Provide individual and group sessions for survivors of the disaster
  • Be knowledgeable on resources available to survivors in community
  • Communicate resource needs to crisis response coordinator
  • Escalate concerns regarding needed behavioral health resources to crisis response coordinator
  • Complete all required documentation on each encounter

Qualifications

 

Minimum Education

 

 

§  High School or equivalent required

§  Associates degree preferred

 

 

Minimum Work Experience

 

 

Customer service experience preferred

Healthcare experience preferred

Crisis counseling experience preferred

 

 

Required Licenses/Certifications

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

 

 

§  Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately

§  Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals

§  Knowledge of basic medical terminology required

§  Basic computer knowledge is required

§  Ability to work independently within general guidelines

§  Ability to communicate in English, both orally and written

§  Ability to work flexible hours

§  Ability to show empathy and compassion

§  Active listening and interpretation skills
