The Housekeeping Supervisor is accountable for supervising the work activities of cleaning personnel to ensure sanitary, orderly and attractive conditions of hospital facilities to provide a suitable environment for the care of patients and for the work of the hospital staff.
Responsible for the supervision of assigned employees.
Responsible for the maintenance of a clean and sanitary environment.
Responsible for keeping all floor areas free of hazardous conditions such as water and cleaning agents.
Responsible for training employees in use of equipment and cleaning methods to provide most efficient and economical methods of maintaining hospital.
Responsible for stressing the importance of the role the housekeeping staff plays in total patient care and the necessity for maintaining high standards of performance.
Make daily work assignments for those employees assigned to him and supervise work activities of cleaning personnel to ensure clean, orderly, and attractive conditions.
Designate special areas to be cleaned to maintain adequate service at all times.
Introduce new equipment and cleaning methods by demonstrating work techniques and procedures.
Tour hospital periodically to inspect wards, rooms, halls, laboratories, and other areas for cleanliness of floors, walls, glass, bathroom fixtures, and other furniture.
Ensure that trash and garbage disposal meets safety, health and sanitation regulations.
Advise employees of work that is not up to standard.
Prepare requisitions for replacement of items expended and maintain inventory of cleaning materials, supplies, and equipment.
Inspect hospital equipment and furnishings such as beds, cabinets, chairs, screens, and fans, and prepare requisition for maintenance.
Supervise the collection and distribution of linen to meet needs of the hospital.
Conduct or assist in training sessions involving orientation, work methods, procedures and general safety programs.
Investigate and prepare reports of accidents involving housekeeping personnel.
May recommend personnel actions such as employing, transferring, or termination.
Assume status of acting Housekeeper during absence.
Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
High school graduate plus one (1) year experience in hospital housekeeping.
Familiarity with collective bargaining and labor-management relations is preferred.
Must have demonstrated leadership potential.
POSITION PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess the physical ability needed to exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally; and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently; and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for medium work.
