Overview

Under the guidance of the director of radiology, performs full range of nuclear scans. Directs and supervises those assigned to assist in this process.

Responsibilities

Prepares radioactive isotope for administration to patient.

Fills hypodermic syringe with the specified amount of isotope and tagging component.

Observes strict precautions when handling isotopes to safe guard against overexposure to radiation.

Keeps records of tests conducted, test results, and use and disposition of isotopes.

Ensures compliance of NRC regulations and guidelines and ALARA with proper documentation.

Must be available for on‑call assignments, as needed.

Assays quality of isotopes purchased from suppliers.

Is responsible for the department’s operational excellence and ensures that the department delivers quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and professional standards.

Qualifications

Minimum Education

  • Must have completed an approved nuclear medicine program and be certified by the nuclear medicine technology certification board.

Minimum Work Experience

  • Minimum of three years of nuclear medicine experience with progressive responsibilities.

Required Licenses/Certifications

  • Must possess state license.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Provides overall supervision for nuclear medicine personnel, including scheduling and distribution of workload.
  • Participates in the evaluation of job performance of subordinates.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately
  • Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred
  • Basic computer knowledge is preferred
  • Ability to move or lift patients and equipment
  • Ability to work independently within general guidelines
  • Ability to communicate in English, both orally and written
  • Required to comply with OSHA regulations for the N95 respirator training and fit testing
