Overview

The Clinical Pharmacy Informaticist is a clinical and systems management position that will assist in the development of corporate clinical guidelines, pathways, protocols and templates for the deployment of clinical pharmacy services throughout the organization through information systems at the local hospital level and corporate level.  This position will develop the clinical training and manage the preparation of the local Pharmacists, Physicians, Nurses and their staffs for clinical interface with information systems.  The position will complete assessments of clinical practices, identify gaps and develop plans for effective utilization of clinical guidelines, pathways, protocols and templates.  Assist the hospital, IS, and corporate team in the successful deployment of Clinical Documentation, CPOE, and other aspects of the Electronic Health Record (EHR).

Responsibilities

Facilitates the development of the pharmacy and pharmacy-related information systems and tailors specifications to departmental use and future business need.

  • Meets with corporate and hospital pharmacy and non-pharmacy team members to facilitate discussion of clinical pharmacy roles in specific applications;
  • Works with the clinical pharmacy staff and management to acquire an understanding of the underlying needs of the clinical roles of pharmacists and how the EHR can support their practice;
  • Develops and documents internal procedures for the advancement of clinical pharmacy practice;
  • Reviews prior system specifications to understand current system applications;
  • Investigates preferred choices of users and educates users on appropriate clinical practice;
  • Analyzes utilization data and updates clinical guidelines to reflect current recommendations and standards of practice;
  • Assists trainers during user training on clinical pharmacy practice;
  • Collects information regarding potential system enhancement needs.

Qualifications

Minimum EducationThis position requires a Doctor of Pharmacy degree with 3 years of clinical pharmacy practice experience or an ASHP-accredited residency.

 

Minimum Work Experience: 3 years

 

Required Licenses/Certifications:  Kentucky pharmacist license or license-eligible if based in Kentucky or West Virginia pharmacist license or license-eligible if based in West Virginia.

 

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:  Extensive knowledge of pharmacy information systems and support systems.  Working knowledge of Microsoft office. Ability to manage complex problems and develop solutions.  Ability to organize groups of physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and other clinical team members facilitate discussions and decisions.  Ability to design data collection, perform data analysis and present findings in a manner that supports the project.  Ability to develop training programs and plans to support the project.
