Overview

Under the direction of the divisional director of the service, the manager is responsible for the effective implementation of the philosophy, goals, policies and procedures of the hospital, nursing department and cardiac catheterization laboratory and their effect on patient care in the cardiac catheterization laboratory.  The manager has the authority to make decisions on that unit in the areas of patient care, human resources, and financial; management.  Responsible for overseeing the day to day flow of the cath lab and echocardiography unit.

Responsibilities

Effective leadership through communication, collaboration and interaction with the physicians and staff in the delivery of Cardiovascular Services

 

Manages the services in an efficient manager by planning, organizing, and adjusting activities for maximum productivity

 

Schedules work assignments and coordinates request for services to insure adequate coverage of the service at all times.

 

In conjunction with the Cardiovascular Service Line Director, determines staffing needs and patterns and recommends appropriate staffing levels and classifications consistent with the unit position authorization and productivity benchmarks.

 

Makes recommendations for employment, termination, and disciplinary action regarding department personnel.

 

Evaluates subordinates on a regular basis.

 

Supervises the daily business functions of the service, including charge capture and reconciliation functions.

 

Maintains and up-to-date knowledge in areas of responsibility to allow recommendation of new series, products, and equipment.

 

Monitors and maintains unit compliance with regulatory, accrediting and hospital policy for patient services, environmental and personnel safety.

 

Oversees unit CQI program, which monitors and evaluates critical aspects of care.

 

Accurately identifies real/potential problems affecting the service and implements solutions with follow-through and communication.

 

Handles multiple priorities

Qualifications

Minimum Education: 

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Associate degree in nursing; BSN preferred.

Minimum Work Experience: 

  • Five years’ clinical experience in critical care

Required Licenses/Certifications: 

  • Current state registration as RN
  • ACLS required
  • BLS required

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: 

  • Demonstrated clinical competence in relevant area of cardiovascular imaging
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and managerial competency. Evidence of this includes but not limited to effective communication skills and the ability to deal well with people, problem solves, confront/resolve issues, motivate others, to plan, and organize and direct activities of others.
  • Membership in professional organizations I recommended and certification in specialty areas in encouraged.
