Overview

The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for performing procedures and operating various equipment in accordance with physician orders or under the guidance and direction of the Director of Respiratory.

Responsibilities

· Administers respiratory therapy treatments and emergency respiratory care, using prescribed equipment, gases, drugs, or other required methods.

 

· Performs pulmonary diagnostic studies as directed for patient assessment.

 

· Places patient in proper position for treatment ensuring comfort and safety of patient.

 

· Takes and records vital signs and conditions of patient and records same as directed.

 

· Observes and monitors patient during procedure and takes corrective action as necessary.

 

· Performs necessary reporting functions as directed.

 

· Insures that equipment and supplies are available and in proper condition for patient use.

 

· Perform cardiac diagnostic studies as directed.

 

· Must be able to set up, maintain and make prescribed changes to mechanical ventilation.

 

· Must be able to perform Blood Gas Analysis and/or Arterial Sampling.

 

· Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings

 

· Participate in committee meetings upon request

 

· Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

· High School Diploma or GED equivalent; and

· Successful completion of a formal respiratory therapy course.

 

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

· Possession of a valid National Board of Respiratory Care Certification in states where certification is required; and

· Must possess State Certification or Temporary Work Permit for respiratory care practitioner.
