The Materials Manager is accountable to provide proper management of inventory, including appropriate inventory levels; proper movement of supplies, and ensuring proper receipt and distribution of all supplies and
equipment to various departments throughout their community.
This position has frequent contact with department heads of the hospital, home health, home care stores, clinics, physicians, central purchasing, system materials management, accounts payable, and sales representatives.
An active involvement in community facilities supply cost reduction and/or control efforts.
Controls and maintains an appropriate level of inventory through a computerized inventory system.
Supervises and coordinates activities for workers engaged in ordering, receiving, storing, inventorying, issuing and shipping materials.
Supervises employees in an efficient manner by planning, organizing, and controlling all activities of the department to obtain maximum results.
Coordinates and conducts physical inventory of goods.
Implements, interprets, and maintains work standards and procedures that are in compliance with system and department policies, governmental regulations and various regulatory agency requirements. Assists in the development of these work standards and procedures.
Evaluates work on a regular basis.
Make recommendations for employment, promotion, disciplinary action, and termination of employment.
Assures that employees receive orientation and in-service training.
Plans and designs layout of inventory storage areas for optimal work efficiency.
Assures that appropriate and accurate records are prepared on a timely basis.
Studies, records, and recommends remedial action for obsolete and excessive stock levels in all stock locations within the “community” and obtains authorization for return goods and coordinates shipping of same.
Traces history of items to determine reason for discrepancies between inventory and stock control records and implements remedial action to resolve discrepancies.
Performs other duties as assigned.
High School education with three (3) years experience in materials management. Analytical abilities required.
Good communication skills (verbal and written) required.
Must possess physical ability needed to exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally; and/or 25 to 50 pounds of
force frequently and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are
in excess of those for medium work.
