The Supplemental Staffing Team (SST) Registered Nurse (RN) assesses, analyzes, plans, implements and evaluates patient care following established patient care standards for Appalachian Regional Healthcare including those established by the Nurse Practice Act. The primary function of this role, based upon hired tier and float option, is to be available and flexible to float to various departments and/or hospital sites throughout ARH healthcare locations within Kentucky and/or West Virginia. The SST RN is to provide patient care, which could include but not limited to same day staffing assignments, more than one assignment location within a single shift, travel assignments, seasonal staffing patterns or natural disaster/emergency response. Participates as a member of the Supplemental Staffing Team in cooperation with and under the direction of Director and/or Clinical Nurse Manager or designee.
• Supplemental Staffing Team RNs are hired with the understanding they must float based on one of the following staffing models:
• Local: Float expectation within a single site based on competency.
• Regional: Float expectation within multiple sites within a single region based on competency.
• Enterprise: Float expectation within multiple sites across one or more regions that are greater than 75 miles from the RN's home address and accepts assignments that range from 2 to 13 weeks based on competency.
• In collaboration with providers, clinical care team members, patients and families (as defined by the patient), evaluates, plans, directs and administers patient care.
• Implements a plan of care based upon established standards of care/practice, policies, and procedures, incorporating cultural, religious, psychosocial, physical, and age-related issues.
• Completes all required documentation accurately and within the required timeframe.
• Communicates clinical information with members of the multidisciplinary team.
• Possesses knowledge of medications and administers them safely and accurately.
• Appropriately delegates and supervises routine technical functions to non-licensed and licensed personnel.
• Embraces concepts and behaviors that enhance customer satisfaction, employee morale, and improvement in the profession of nursing.
• In collaboration with the patient and family, evaluates patient outcomes and revises the patient's plan of care.
• Negotiates with the patient, family, and healthcare team members to achieve acceptable resolution of conflicts related to patient care or organizational issues.
• Demonstrates an appreciation of the hospital mission by acting as a resource for employees, students, and residents.
• Supports patient and family centered care and promotes that environment within the care provided.
• Includes patients and families in the plan of care and provides education and support as needed.
• Incorporates the professional practice model into care delivery.
• Acts as a patient safety advocate by participating in ongoing quality improvement initiatives within the department.
• Performs other duties assigned by authorized personnel or as required to meet the needs of the facility and internal and external customers.
Education
• Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
• Associates Degree in Nursing Required
• Bachelors of Science in Nursing Preferred
Minimum Work Experience
• Two (2) years of clinical experience required.
• Three (3) years of clinical experience preferred.
Licenses, Certifications, Registrations
Required
• Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of KY or WV, depending on legal state of residence or compact nurse licensure
• BLS upon hire
• ACLS required within 6 months of hire: ICU, Tele, PCU, ENDO, PACU, OR, Cath Lab, ED
• PALS required within 6 months: OR, PACU & ED
• TNCC certification within 6 months: ED Nurses
• De-escalation training certification within 6 months: All clinical locations
