The Histology Technician is responsible for preparing tissue samples and slides to be used for tests in the diagnosis of diseases.
Performs all techniques involved in dehydration, clearing, impregnation and embedding of tissues.
Cuts tissue blocks on microtomes.
Performs routine staining and special staining of tissue as required.
Makes frozen section on Cryostat or conventional freezing microtome.
Maintains and operates tissue processor, processing tissue by hand when necessary.
Prepares solutions and stains used by Histology.
Performs special procedures required for the processing of bone, calcified tissues, eyes, etc.
Performs necessary paperwork for keeping log book, assigning numbers to tissue, labels, and slides.
Stores slides and tissue blocks.
Maintains complete slide files.
May participate in assisting of autopsies.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
One year training in an accredited course of Histologic Technique, or one year on-the-job training under the direction of a
board certified pathologist. AND Successful completion of Registry examination for Histologic Technician.
