The Assistant Director of Rehabilitation is accountable for conducting and supervising rehabilitation programs to enable the patient to reach the maximum physical performance possible, prevent disability and to teach the patient and family to function within the scope of any permanent physical disability.
CLINICAL/PROFESSIONAL FUNCTIONS
1. Demonstrates clinical knowledge and skills necessary to provide rehabilitation services appropriately to the age of the patient served.
2. Completes a comprehensive evaluation of physical function of assigned patients based upon clinical diagnosis, impairment and/or injury in accordance with organizational and state practice act requirements.
3. Formulates therapy treatment plan based upon physical assessment/evaluation.
4. Administers skilled therapy treatment in accordance with organizational and state practice act requirements.
5. Coordinates patient care with other clinical team members, community resources and family members as indicated, ensuring optimal patient care and communication.
6. Completes all required paperwork following organizational and state practice act requirements to ensure that documentation reflects care provided and the outcomes achieved.
7. Maintains and enhances personal knowledge as well as promoting professional standards.
8. Provides supervision of rehabilitation department to promote continuity of care.
9. Demonstrates behaviors specific to job that provides quality service in a safe and secure work environment.
MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONS
The Assistant Director of Rehabilitation assists
1. Assists in the supervision and management of the department to satisfaction of the CCEO and/or Assistant CCEO.
2. Assists in directing functions of the department to avoid interruption of service
3. AssistSupervises, instructs and evaluates rehabilitation staff members.
4. Participates in development of annual budget process by analyzing statistical information.
5. Manages volume and revenue expectations in line with budgetary requirements.
6. Possesses strong planning, leading, controlling and organizational skills. Demonstrates flexibility and ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously
7. Completes and justifies position request, recruits, conducts interviews and selects the appropriate applicant for vacant positions. Provides recommendations on staff ratios for the department based upon equipment, therapy staff and services offered.
8. Assures performance improvement processes are established to pro-actively manage rehab department and monitor clinical quality
9. Establishes goals, policies and written procedures for Rehab Department.
10. Develops a system for inventory of supplies and equipment to ensure appropriate delivery of services for persons served by the department. Initiates requests for equipment and assures that equipment is maintained.
11. Monitors staffs' compliance with maintaining required licenses and/or certifications
12. Promotes employee education and developmental activities. Ensures training for staff on therapy techniques, use of new treatment methods and equipment to meet patients’ needs as well as internal and external influences on patient care.
13. Provides input for job descriptions and competencies to adequately reflect current state board and licensure practices for specific discipline.
14. May serve as rehabilitative therapy consultant for employers, educational institutions, and community organizations. May coordinate research projects to develop new approaches to rehabilitative therapy
15. Educates and markets rehabilitative services to the physician, community and other agencies.
Minimum Education
Certified/licensed/registered healthcare professional with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) dependent upon licensure requirements, three years of clinical experience, and at least one year of management experience.
Minimum Work Experience
Previous experience in administrative management preferred.
Experience working with/supervision all three rehabilitation disciplines (PT, OT, SLP)
Experience working with large organizations or systems preferred.
Functional knowledge and experience with teamwork dynamics and the ability to work in a strong team atmosphere.
Required Licenses/Certifications
Licensed, or eligible for licensure, as a therapist by state where employed
CPR Certification
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Computer skills, experience with electronic medical record preferred.
