Overview

Under the direction of the Director of Behavioral Health and in conjunction with department directors/nurse managers the Psychiatric House Director is responsible for personnel management, interpretation and implementation of policies and procedures, staff mix allocation and coordination of bed management in order to support and enhance patient care. Collaborates with House Directors and department directors/nurse managers to guide behavioral health staff/physicians in the process of problem resolution. Serves as an administrative representative in off shifts. Will work with House Directors to improve overall flow and process of psych services. 

Responsibilities

Maintains current clinical knowledge relative to age and technology of patients from newborn throughout life span and keeps current with hospital policies/procedures.

 

Manages patient placement, facilities, and resources.

 

Provides information and professional support to staff.

 

Serves as a role model and resource for staff.

 

Represents nursing and hospital administration on the off‑shifts.

 

Participates in the development of nursing staff.

 

Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.

 

Be available for consultation with medical, nursing and administrative staff.

 

Works with registration to coordinate bed control.

 

Collaborates with managers to effectively manage staffing resources.

Qualifications

Minimum Education

  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing preferred.
  • BSN or equivalent preferred.

Minimum Work Experience

  • A minimum of four years of current clinical nursing experience in a hospital environment in which leadership, interpersonal skills, clinical expertise, and professional creativity has been demonstrated is highly desired. Two+ years psychiatric nursing highly preferred.

Required Licenses/Certifications

  • Current state licensure in nursing.
  • BLS
  • ACLS and PALS

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Required to comply with OSHA regulations for the N95 respirator training and fit testing
  • Completion of all Mandatory Competencies
