Functions in the roles of Educator, Facilitator, Consultant, Change Agent, and Leader. Coordinates and performs
educational activities that promote the competency and development of Appalachian Regional Healthcare's (ARH)
perioperative personnel, including orientation, competency validation, in-service, continuing education, &
leadership development for all ARH hospitals offering surgical services. Assesses, plans, develops, implements,
and evaluates perioperative educational programs in response to health care demands, trends, identified
learning needs, department goals, quality improvement measures, risk management, regulatory changes, and
compliancy criteria. Designs educational offerings (courses, simulations, programs) using processes and
methodologies that incorporate the principles of adult education and learning styles. Directs the delivery of
education for orientation, conducts competency assessments, facilitates ongoing development, and establishes
courses and programs based on annual needs assessments and educational compliancy requirements. Delivers
education activities that validate, develop, maintain and enhance the knowledge and skills of perioperative staff.
Maintains educational and competency records per policy and compliance.
Participates in the development of standardized educational initiatives across the Appalachian Regional
Healthcare (ARH) organization and plays a vital role in leading change in pursuit of improved perioperative staff
practice and professional development. Promotes a positive image and maintains positive relationships with
internal and external customers. The Perioperative Clinical Educator will be required to travel to various ARH
facilities to provide education, under the direction of the General Surgery Service Line Director.
Education:
Bachelor's Degree Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) required or plan to obtain within 2 years of hire Required
Work Experience:
4-6 years Five (5) years of varied surgical services experience Required
1-3 years One (1) year nursing education experience Preferred
Licenses and Certifications:
Current license to practice nursing in the states of KY or WV depending on state of residency Required
Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) Professional Certification Required or plan to obtain within 1 year of employment Required
BLS required upon hire Required
ACLS required within 6 months of employment Required
PALS required within 6 months of employment Required
BLS, ACLS, or PALS instructor certification Preferred
Designated Instructor Certification Requirements
BLS Instructor designation with minimal requirement of teaching two courses annually.
ACLS Instructor designation with minimal requirement of teaching two courses annually.
PALS Instructor designation with minimal requirement of teaching two courses annually.
De-Escalation Instructor designation with minimal requirement of teaching two courses annually.
TNCC Instructor designation with minimal requirement of teaching two courses annually.
Other Instructor designations as needed with minimal requirement of teaching two courses annually.
