Overview

The Corporate Energy Manager is responsible for developing and implementing energy management strategies to optimize energy efficiency, reduce operational costs, and ensure compliance with healthcare facility regulations. This role supports the Vice President, Facilities Planning and Development by overseeing energy conservation initiatives, monitoring building performance, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to drive sustainability efforts across healthcare campuses.

Responsibilities

Energy Strategy & Optimization

  • Develop and implement energy management programs to reduce energy consumption and operational costs.
  • Conduct energy audits, analyze energy usage data, and identify efficiency improvement opportunities.
  • Optimize building automation systems (BAS) for HVAC, lighting, and other critical hospital infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with facility management and engineering teams to improve energy efficiency in hospital operations.

Regulatory Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with energy-related regulations, including ASHRAE, NFPA, EPA, LEED, and ENERGY STAR® standards.
  • Prepare reports on energy performance, carbon footprint, and sustainability initiatives for leadership and regulatory bodies.
  • Maintain energy benchmarking data and participate in energy incentive programs.

Capital Planning & Financial Oversight

  • Support capital investment planning by identifying energy efficiency upgrades, renewable energy opportunities, and ROI-driven initiatives.
  • Work with finance teams to apply for utility rebates, grants, and energy efficiency funding opportunities.
  • Develop business cases for energy-related projects and track savings from efficiency improvements.

Energy Management

  • Implement energy conservation strategies while maintaining compliance with infection control, life safety, and patient care requirements.
  • Evaluate and recommend energy-efficient solutions for operating rooms, imaging suites, HVAC systems, and critical hospital infrastructure.
  • Work with clinical teams to optimize medical equipment energy use without compromising patient care.

Stakeholder Engagement & Training

  • Lead energy awareness and training programs for hospital staff and facility management teams.
  • Collaborate with hospital leadership, engineers, and sustainability teams to align energy goals with operational objectives.
  • Act as the liaison between hospital administration, utility providers, and regulatory agencies.

Qualifications

Qualifications & Requirements:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Energy Management, Sustainability, Facilities Management, or a related field or an equivalent level of professional experience required.
  • 5+ years of experience in energy management, with at least 3 years in healthcare facility energy management.
  • Experience with HVAC, building automation systems (BAS), power distribution, and energy modeling tools.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of healthcare energy efficiency standards, ASHRAE guidelines, and demand-side energy management.
  • Proficiency in energy management software, BAS platforms, and data analytics tools (e.g., EnergyCAP, SkySpark, Trane Tracer, Tridium/Niagara, Metasys).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a complex healthcare environment.

Certifications (Hold or achieve within 24 months)

  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
  • LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP)
  • Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM)
  • ASHRAE Building Energy Assessment Professional (BEAP)

Work Environment & Travel:

  • Hybrid role with on-site visits required at healthcare facilities.
  • Occasional travel for energy audits, regulatory meetings, and capital project reviews.
