Responsible for the safe and accurate collection and disposition of blood samples and responsible for performing associated laboratory duties. The Laboratory Phlebotomist is competent in providing direct care to patients within the following age brackets: neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
Assumes responsibility for blood collection.
· Assumes responsibility for all clerical duties within the laboratory department.
· Performs other duties within scope of capabilities as requested and when necessary.
· Utilizes time in an effective and productive manner.
· Adheres to all departmental, hospital, and corporate policies and procedures.
· Performs work thoroughly and completely in a neat, organized and efficient manner.
· Utilizes time in an effective and productive manner.
· Performs work in a consistently dependable manner.
· Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with co-workers, patients, staff, and others using a humanistic attitude. Respects patients’ rights.
· Supports the hospital QSM program.
· Demonstrates effective communication skills for all ages of patients served.
· Performs all other duties assigned by the Laboratory Manager.
High school graduate or equivalent desired.
· Laboratory experience preferred.
· Phlebotomy certification or completion of phlebotomy program or equivalent phlebotomy experience preferred.
· Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
· Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and at times hostile people within the facility. Must be able to approach all age groups across the life span of the patient.
· Personal grooming neat, clean and professional. Adheres to established dress code of the laboratory.
