The Registered Nurse requires substantial specialized knowledge, judgement and nursing skills based upon the
principles of psychological, biological, physical, and social sciences in the application of the nursing process in
the respective departments in which assigned. The RN must collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary
team members; provide physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families; supervising
assigned team members and students.
The Inpatient Dialysis RN provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing dialysis treatment in an acute
care setting. This role includes patient assessment, treatment administration, emergency response, and
interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure safe and effective dialysis care. The RN may deliver care across multiple
modalities including hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT).
Completes patient assessments, formulates plan of care, oversees implementation of plan of care, evaluate and
adjust plan of care utilizing critical thinking skills
The performance of other nursing acts which are authorized or limited by the board, and which are consistent
either with American Nursing’s Association Standards of Practice or with Standards of Practice established by
nationally accepted organizations of registered nurses.
Care, counsel health teaching and promotion, utilizes Teach Back methodology as affirmation of comprehension
The administration of medication, intravenous therapy and treatment as prescribed by a LIP
Supervision, delegation and follow-through to other personnel in the performance of activities relating to nursing
care.
Mentors and precepts students and orient new staff as assigned

Administer dialysis treatments in accordance with physician orders and established protocols.
Safely administer medications related to dialysis care and monitor for adverse reactions.
Respond promptly and effectively to dialysis-related emergencies and changes in patient condition.
Educate patients and families about dialysis procedures, post-treatment care, and long-term management.
Document all aspects of patient care accurately and timely in the electronic medical record.
Collaborate with nephrologists, hospital staff, and dialysis team members to coordinate care.
Manage dialysis equipment setup, operation, troubleshooting, and disinfection across all modalities.
Ensure compliance with infection control, safety, and regulatory standards.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives, staff education, and ongoing training.
Respects dignity and confidentiality of all matters relating to patients

Work Experience (education can be substituted for experience)
Up to one-year Acute care or dialysis experience Preferred.
Experience with hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, or CRRT is highly desirable. Preferred.
