Overview

This is a system level leader position that provides strategic leadership and oversight of all aspects of clinical

training, training requirements, and required clinical certifications. Responsible for the effective operation,

administration, service delivery and evaluation of all training programs, including the acquisition of new training

programs pertinent to clinical operations, in collaboration with the AVP of Nursing Education & Professional

Practice and the System Chief Nursing Officer.

The System Director of ARH Center for Training Excellence has overall responsibility for the creation,

implementation, and evaluation of the clinical training plan within system clinical operations. Creates and drives

collaborative strategies across all regions and markets. Responsible for overall operational success of assigned

function and for integration within other organizational initiatives, while ensuring operational outcomes meet

financial and workforce goals.

Responsibilities

Provides leadership and oversight of all clinical training program development functions for the

enterprise, ensuring the provision of high-quality education services in the most cost-effective manner.

Provides expert guidance and consultation in the areas of training and professional practice.

· Responsible for the structure, methodology and evaluation of clinical training programs and associated

clinical competency assessment.

· Identifies and achieves quality improvement initiatives related to the function of clinical training.

· Partners with leaders in all areas to achieve patient experience, safety, and quality outcomes using

evidence-based practice, adult education science, clinical research, and innovation.

· Develops and enhances partnerships with academic organizations and workforce entities to positively

impact workforce planning.

· Works in collaboration with others (e.g., Nursing, Talent Acquisition, Workforce Intelligence, Clinical

Education Leaders, Senior leaders) to develop and implement strategies for sustainable workforce

pipelines for key clinical positions through these partnerships.

 

o Oversee/maintain AHA Training Center Requirements

o Maintain spreadsheets of certified instructors with dates of certification/expiration

o Audit instructor-led courses for content adherence and quality delivery, and provide

feedback and remediation if necessary

o Oversee timeliness of roster submissions/entering and issuance of cards

o Conduct needs assessment initial/ongoing of equipment needs

o Market unoccupied seats in AHA Training Classes to non-ARH

individuals/organizations

o Oversee RQI procurement, requirements, implementation, and ongoing evaluation

o Oversee Centralized Training Calendar

o Evaluate number and frequency of classes being offered for maximum effectiveness

o Analyze data for course attendance, no shows, and capacity

o Facilitate the master list of courses to be offered for each calendar year and publish

by established timelines/due dates for the upcoming year

o Seek out innovative methods/technology to enhance class registrations

o Collaborate with community agencies regarding courses/classes/programs that would benefit ARH’s communities/staff/patients

o Examples: Certified Nurse Aide, Medical Assistants, Sterile Processing Technician, etc. o Budgeting/Fiscal Management of Training Center

o Oversee/maintain CE Provider ship for Kentucky and West Virginia o Ongoing tracking and analysis of CEs provided per facility o Nursing Student Placement Coordination

o Utilizes collaboration skills to identify and manage student placement requests while monitoring timelines and resolving risks/barriers

o Efficiently and effectively allocates student requests, as appropriate, to support student placement and achieve strong relationships with local academic partners.

o Facilitates the planning and coordination of nursing student onboarding, placements, in clinical departments and evaluation of student experiences, implementing improvements, as needed, in collaboration with facility nursing leadership.

o Consults with ARH stakeholders to coordinate placement and address gaps.

o Nurse Extern Program Coordination and Support o Provide support and guidance to all employed nurse externs.

o Work to create efficient systems and workflow for the extern’s program

o Coordinates clinical opportunities for nurse externs and monitors progression within the program levels

o Refines and maintains the extern program meets educational support needs of the nursing department staff.

o Coordinates with other stakeholders to ensure the entry of nurse externs leads to high clinical satisfaction to support transition to practice as a new graduate RN at ARH

o Management System Skills o Conceptual skills to identify problems and create solutions

o Understand adult learning principles and provide analysis when changes are needed to achieve optimal leaner outcomes

o Strategic thinking to align training needs with organizational goals

o Experienced in evaluation of trainer effectiveness o Strong organizational and time-management skills

Qualifications

Education:

· Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) required.

· Master’s degree in nursing (MSN) required or must have a plan to obtain within three (3) years upon hire.

· Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing (PhD), preferred.

· Minimum of three (3) years leadership experience; leading clinical development programs.

· Simulation experience in the healthcare environment is desired.

 

Work Experience:

· Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience working in the healthcare and/or nursing education fields.

· Two (2) years’ experience in nursing leadership, preferred.

· Requires 3 years leadership experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Current and valid license or compact license as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Kentucky or WV

· Nursing Specialty Certification Required within two (2) years of hire

· Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation, and AVADE instructor status, or plan to obtain

within 6 months

· Current TNCC instructor status, or plan to obtain within one (1) year

· Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) in-depth knowledge of clinical

certifications and requirements, and experience in fiscal management (budgeting, etc.).


Licenses/Certifications

· Registered Nurse – Single State or Compact, Preferred

· Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) or other related professional certification, Preferred
