The Telemetry Monitor Technician is responsible for the continuous monitoring, interpretation, communication
and documentation of cardiac rhythms, rhythm components and telemetry indicators for multiple patients. The
individual will view multiple patients’ electrocardiographic displays to monitor noninvasive cardiac activity of
patients and notify appropriate healthcare personnel on variances in the electrocardiographic pattern. These
monitoring requirements will apply to Appalachian Regional Healthcare patients at a remote location across the
system. The Telemetry Monitor Technician is responsible for collaboration with clinical staff in order to establish
appropriate communication with each site. The Telemetry Monitor Technician will be responsible for
troubleshooting routine technical concerns with equipment and notifying biomedical equipment individuals for
non-basic repairs.
1. Monitors multiple patients’ cardiac activity on an electrocardiographic display to
communicate changes in pattern to appropriate healthcare personnel and appropriately
respond to alarms for safe patient care.
2. Monitors and reviews patient information to determine baseline cardiac rhythm and prior
variances to accurately reflect the patient’s rhythms in the medical record for healthcare
personnel’s use in determining patient care.
3. Maintains and updates records on each patient to ensure an accurate record of the
patient’s cardiac activity and ensure appropriate care can be provided based on the
results.
4. Troubleshoots and identifies routine technical concerns with monitoring systems to
complete appropriate repairs or contact appropriate biomedical equipment individuals ensuring resolution of the concern.
5. Utilize telephone and overhead page technology to communicate with the patient care team across ARH facilities.
6. Regular attendance is required in order to carry out the essential functions of the position.
7. Reviews and meets ongoing education and competency requirements of the role to maintain the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform, within scope, role specific functions.
8. Other duties, as assigned.
Education
· High school diploma or equivalent, required. · Successful completion of Electrocardiogram (ECG) Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation course within three months of hire OR a score of 85% or greater on the Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation Challenge Exam upon hire, required. · Completion of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course, preferred.
Minimum Work Experience
· One year experience as a Telemetry Monitor Technician, preferred. · One year experience with direct patient care, preferred.
