The Health Information Supervisor is accountable for the day-to-day operation of the core medical
records area of the Health Information Management Department, including staff supervision for both Hazard
Regional Medical Center and the Psychiatric Center. They may also serve as a backup to the Health Information
Administrator in his / her absence.
Oversight of the day-to-day operations of the Department including the direct supervision of the Staff. This
includes all of the usual and customary responsibilities such as personnel selection, job assignments, employee
development, evaluations, etc.
Assisting the Health Information Administrator (HIA) in (1) the strategic planning process that supports Hazard
(ARH) Mission and Vision, (2) developing and meeting long and short-term goals and objectives, (3) developing
comprehensive, realistic annual operating and capital budgets, and (4) transitioning from a paper to a hybrid
(paper and electronic). Other activities as required.
In conjunction with the Administrator, participate in the development of policies and procedures that are
consistent with all Federal and State laws as well as regulatory bodies such as the Joint Commission on
Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations in addition to ARH, Hazard, and Medical Staff policies and procedures.
Monitor and ensure compliance with HIM policies and procedures.
In conjunction with the Health Information Administrator, coordinate the evolution of HIM functions that will be
transformed as the result of the migration to an eHIM, for example, analysis, assembly, chart completion, MPI
maintenance, release of information, etc.
In conjunction with the Health Information Administrator, participate in the development and implementation of
eHIM educational programs in the areas of computer skills and competencies in the use of the Electronic Health
Records.
In conjunction with the Health Information Administrator, participate in the development of job standards and
performance criteria for monitoring productivity of staff in all areas.
Serve as System “Super-User” and act as a resource to all users. This includes training/retraining as needed.
Order supplies.
Timesheets/payroll.
Departmental safety inspections.
Oversight of the physician chart completion / suspension process.
Enhance customer service to both external and internal customers.
Develop good working relationships with other business units.
Develop good working relationships with the Medical Staff.
Attendance/participation at various hospital committee meetings as required.
Preparation of routine or ad hoc reports.
Perform other duties as required.
Bachelor's Degree Required
The ideal candidate will have three to five years' experience in a Health Information Management Department. Previous management experience is highly desirable but not required. Experience in a Union environment is highly desirable but not required. Experience with EMRs (Electronic Medical Records) is highly desirable but not required.
