The Senior Vice President (SVP) of Ancillary Services serves as a senior executive leader responsible for the strategic oversight, operational performance, and regulatory compliance of ancillary and support service departments across Appalachian Regional Healthcare. Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to, Perioperative Services, Laboratory, Radiology/Imaging, Respiratory Therapy, Sleep Services, Environmental Services, Dietary and Nutrition Services, and other support service lines as assigned.
This role partners with executive leadership, hospital operations, and clinical leaders to ensure efficient, patient-centered, and financially sustainable operations across the ARH system. The SVP drives operational excellence, standardization, workforce planning, quality outcomes, and strategic growth initiatives aligned with organizational goals.
Consistent with the ARH Executive Level 1 (E1) framework, this position carries Tier 1 organizational impact and supports the development and execution of short-to-mid-term operational strategies across multiple facilities and departments.
• Provides executive leadership and operational oversight for ancillary and hospital support service departments across the ARH system, including but not limited to Perioperative Services, Laboratory Services, Radiology/Imaging, Respiratory Therapy, Sleep Services, Environmental Services, Dietary and Nutrition Services, Rehabilitation Services, and additional support functions as assigned.
• Develops and implements system-wide operational strategies, standards, and performance expectations designed to support high-quality, efficient, patient-centered hospital operations.
• Partners collaboratively with hospital executive leadership, nursing leadership, physicians, and operational departments to ensure ancillary and support services effectively support patient throughput, clinical operations, safety, quality outcomes, and patient satisfaction.
• Oversees operational, financial, quality, regulatory, and service excellence performance across assigned departments and service lines.
• Establishes accountability structures, operational metrics, productivity standards, and performance improvement initiatives to optimize efficiency, labor management, and resource utilization.
• Leads strategic growth, modernization, and service expansion initiatives for ancillary and support service operations across the organization.
• Provides executive oversight of contracted ancillary and support service partnerships, including vendor performance, contract compliance, service level expectations, financial stewardship, and operational integration.
• Partners with contracted service providers to ensure alignment with ARH operational goals, quality standards, workforce expectations, and patient experience initiatives.
• Collaborates with Finance, Supply Chain, Operations, and executive leadership on budgeting, capital planning, equipment replacement planning, and long-range operational strategy development.
• Ensures all assigned departments maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, accreditation, and regulatory requirements including CMS, Joint Commission, OSHA, CLIA, CAP, and other governing standards.
• Supports recruitment, retention, succession planning, leadership development, employee engagement, and workforce stabilization efforts across ancillary and support service departments.
• Leads operational readiness initiatives to ensure ancillary and support services maintain continuity of operations during emergency management events, system disruptions, and organizational incidents.
• Identifies opportunities for standardization, operational integration, workflow redesign, and continuous improvement across multiple facilities and departments.
• Serves as a strategic and operational liaison with physicians, vendors, contractors, regulatory agencies, and community stakeholders regarding ancillary and support service operations.
• Promotes a culture aligned with ARH values and behavioral expectations focused on service, trust, compassion, collaboration, accountability, and innovation.
• Provides leadership support for organizational initiatives, strategic priorities, operational committees, and special projects as assigned.
• Performs other duties as assigned in support of ARH operational and strategic objectives.
Education
• Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or Related Field Required
• Master’s Degree in Related Field Preferred
Minimum Work Experience
• Minimum seven (7) years progressive experience in healthcare leadership required, preferably in a multi-site hospital system
• Prior executive oversight of multi-departmental hospital operations or ancillary hospital services
