The Senior Vice President (SVP), Service Line Operations serves as a senior executive leader responsible for the operational development, growth, integration, and performance of clinical service lines across Appalachian Regional Healthcare. This role provides executive oversight for the operational build-out and advancement of strategically significant service lines including, but not limited to, Orthopedics, Women’s Services, Cardiology, and other emerging clinical programs across the ARH system.
The SVP partners closely with executive leadership, physicians, hospital operations, nursing leadership, and business functions to operationalize service line growth initiatives, improve patient access, strengthen physician alignment, increase volumes, and support long-term organizational sustainability. This role is responsible for building scalable operational structures, leadership models, governance frameworks, and care delivery approaches that support ARH’s continued expansion and modernization of clinical services.
This position plays a critical role in identifying growth opportunities, reducing operational variation, improving coordination across facilities, and supporting the development of integrated, high-performing service line operations across the organization.
Consistent with the ARH Executive Level 1 (E1) framework, this position carries Tier 1 organizational impact and supports the execution of short-to-mid-term operational initiatives across multiple hospitals, markets, and clinical service areas.
· Provides executive leadership for the operational development, integration, and growth of clinical service lines across the ARH system.
· Leads the operational implementation of service line initiatives designed to improve volumes, patient access, physician alignment, market growth, and operational performance.
· Oversees the development and operational structure of assigned service lines including, but not limited to, Orthopedics, Women’s Services, Cardiology, and additional strategic clinical programs.
· Builds scalable operational leadership structures and governance models to support long-term service line growth and organizational sustainability.
· Partners with executive leadership, physicians, nursing leadership, and hospital operations teams to support coordinated, integrated service delivery across the system.
· Collaborates with physician leadership and medical staff to support physician engagement, program development, recruitment initiatives, and operational alignment efforts.
· Supports the establishment of service line leadership infrastructure including operational leadership roles, dyad leadership models, physician partnerships, and program oversight structures.
· Identifies opportunities to improve operational efficiency, throughput, coordination of care, patient experience, and overall service line performance across multiple facilities.
· Partners with Finance, Operations, Marketing, Physician Services, and Business Development teams to support operational growth initiatives and service expansion opportunities.
· Oversees service line operational performance through the development and monitoring of key performance indicators, operational benchmarks, productivity measures, and quality outcomes.
· Supports operational planning associated with capital investments, technology implementation, program expansion, workforce planning, and facility growth initiatives.
· Drives operational standardization and process improvement efforts to reduce variation and improve consistency across clinical programs and facilities.
· Ensures assigned service line operations maintain compliance with all applicable regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards.
· Promotes a culture aligned with ARH values focused on collaboration, innovation, accountability, service excellence, operational performance, and organizational growth.
· Participates in executive leadership initiatives, strategic operational planning activities, organizational committees, and special projects as assigned.
· Performs other duties as assigned in support of ARH operational and strategic objectives.
Education
• Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field required.
• Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, or related field preferred.
Minimum Work Experience
• Minimum seven (7) years progressive experience in healthcare leadership required
• Experience leading hospital operations, service line operations, physician integration, or clinical growth initiatives required
• Demonstrated experience leading large-scale operational improvement or organizational growth initiatives across multiple facilities preferred.
