Overview

The Vice President (VP), Oncology Services serves as an enterprise leader responsible for the strategic oversight, operational performance, financial stewardship, physician alignment, and clinical quality of oncology services across Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH). Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Infusion Services, Oncology Navigation, Cancer Program Administration, Oncology Research initiatives, Cancer Accreditation, and other oncology service lines and support functions as assigned.


This role partners with executive leadership, hospital operations, physicians, nursing leadership, ancillary services, and community partners to ensure coordinated, patient-centered, high-quality, and financially sustainable oncology services across the ARH system. The Vice President drives operational excellence, service line integration, physician engagement, workforce planning, quality outcomes, cancer program development, strategic growth initiatives, and market expansion aligned with organizational goals.


Consistent with the ARH Management Level 6 (M6) framework, this position carries enterprise responsibility for translating organizational strategy into operational execution and achieving performance outcomes across a significant system portfolio spanning multiple facilities, departments, physician practices, and oncology service lines.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes the strategic direction for ARH's Oncology Service Line.
  • Provides executive oversight for Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Infusion Services, Oncology Navigation, Cancer Program Administration, and other assigned oncology programs.
  • Leads enterprise oncology operational performance across multiple facilities, physician practices, and service locations.
  • Develops and implements long-term service line growth strategies, including program expansion, physician recruitment, market development, and new service offerings.
  • Partners with physicians, hospital leadership, nursing, ancillary departments, and executive leadership to advance oncology strategy and improve patient outcomes.
  • Establishes enterprise standards for oncology operations, quality, patient experience, and clinical performance.
  • Oversees operational, financial, productivity, capital, and budget performance for the Oncology Service Line.
  • Identifies and implements operational improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, access, quality, and financial sustainability.
  • Leads cancer program development, accreditation readiness, regulatory compliance, and performance improvement activities.
  • Develops strategic partnerships that strengthen referral relationships, care coordination, research opportunities, and community outreach.
  • Provides executive leadership for oncology administrators, directors, managers, and service line leadership while fostering accountability, collaboration, and leadership development.
  • Collaborates with Finance, Strategy, Physician Enterprise, Pharmacy, Imaging, Laboratory, Information Technology, Quality, Marketing, and Business Development to advance enterprise oncology initiatives.
  • Monitors service line performance through key performance indicators and implements corrective actions necessary to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Represents the Oncology Service Line before executive leadership, governing bodies, physicians, community partners, and external organizations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Nursing, Public Health, or a related healthcare field required.
  • Master's degree in Healthcare Administration (MHA), Business Administration (MBA), Nursing (MSN), Public Health (MPH), or other related healthcare discipline strongly preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible healthcare leadership experience, including at least seven (7) years in leadership with responsibility for multiple departments, service lines, physician practices, business units, or operational functions.
  • Experience leading oncology operations, cancer programs, physician practice operations, or complex healthcare service lines within a multi-site healthcare organization required.
  • Experience leading strategic initiatives, operational improvement, physician alignment, regulatory compliance, and financial performance required.
  • Knowledge of Commission on Cancer (CoC), CMS, Joint Commission, and other applicable oncology regulatory and accreditation standards required.
  • Experience supporting oncology service line growth, physician recruitment, and cancer program development preferred.
  • Clinical experience preferred.

  • Working knowledge of oncology reimbursement, infusion operations, and cancer program accreditation preferred.
  • Experience working within a unionized healthcare environment preferred.
