Overview

The Vice President (VP) of Post Acute Services serves as an enterprise leader responsible for the strategic oversight, operational performance, and regulatory compliance of post-acute services across Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH). Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to, Home Health, Hospice, Home Medical Equipment (HME), Rehabilitation Services, and other post-acute service lines and support functions as assigned.

 

This role partners with executive leadership, hospital operations, physicians, and community partners to ensure coordinated, patient-centered, and financially sustainable post-acute services across the ARH system. The Vice President drives operational excellence, service integration, workforce planning, quality outcomes, care continuum optimization, and strategic growth initiatives aligned with organizational goals.

 

Consistent with the ARH Management Level 6 (M6) framework, this position carries enterprise responsibility for translating organizational strategy into operational execution and achieving performance outcomes across a significant system portfolio spanning multiple facilities, departments, and service lines.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Develops and executes the strategic direction for ARH's post-acute care services, including Home Health, Hospice, Home Medical Equipment (HME), Rehabilitation Services, and other assigned post-acute programs.
  • Operational Oversight: Provides executive oversight of enterprise leaders responsible for Home Health, Hospice, Home Medical Equipment (HME), Rehabilitation Services, and Quality, Regulatory, and Access functions supporting post-acute services.
  • Leadership Development: Establishes a culture of accountability, collaboration, operational excellence, and respect while developing leaders and implementing an operating model that empowers effective leadership throughout the division.
  • Service Expansion: Develops and executes service expansion and partnership strategies, including the evaluation and pursuit of Certificate of Need (CON) opportunities that support organizational growth and access to care.
  • Strategic Partnerships: Partners with Peak Health, ARH hospitals, physicians, and other key stakeholders to develop innovative care delivery models that improve patient outcomes, expand post-acute services, and reduce total cost of care, including initiatives such as Hospital at Home, remote patient monitoring, and palliative medicine.
  • Network Development: Collaborates with strategic partners to strengthen preferred provider relationships and improve access, quality, and efficiency across the post-acute continuum, including skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), Home Health, Hospice, Home Medical Equipment (HME), and related services.
  • Business Development: Identifies and pursues opportunities to enhance and diversify post-acute services through strategic partnerships, grants, philanthropy, and other funding opportunities.
  • Home Health and Hospice Operations: Provides executive oversight of Home Health and Hospice operations to ensure achievement of operational, financial, quality, regulatory, and patient experience objectives.
  • Home Medical Equipment Operations: Provides executive oversight of enterprise Home Medical Equipment (HME) operations to ensure operational effectiveness, financial stewardship, regulatory compliance, and service excellence.
  • Quality and Regulatory Compliance: Ensures compliance with all applicable regulatory, accreditation, quality, and patient safety requirements across the post-acute services portfolio.
  • Marketing and Outreach: Develops and executes outreach, referral, and marketing strategies that strengthen awareness, utilization, and growth of ARH's post-acute services throughout the health system and communities served.
  • Other Duties: Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  • Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Nursing, or a related field preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible healthcare leadership experience, including at least seven (7) years in leadership with responsibility for multiple departments, service lines, business units, or operational functions.
  • Experience leading multi-site healthcare operations, strategic initiatives, operational improvement, and regulatory compliance required.
  • Knowledge of CMS, Joint Commission, and other applicable regulatory and accreditation standards required.
  • Experience with population health initiatives, care continuum management, and acute hospital case management processes preferred.
  • Prior clinical experience preferred.

  • Experience leading organizational change, operational improvement, and strategic initiatives.
  • Working knowledge of vendor contracts and contract management preferred.
  • Experience working within a unionized healthcare environment preferred.
